The benefits ofa short stay at The Lakes Care Centre Providing care for a loved one can be a highly demanding responsibility which you may not be prepared for Carers need support and attention to maintain their own health and well-being. It is common for caregivers to forget about themselves while caring for their loved one, and respite care provides caregivers with the opportunity for a temporary break from their caring duties and a chance to renew their energy. Deciding on a first placement in care for a loved one can be a big decision an t's important you make yourself comfortable with the care home before making that decision. We often suggest starting with joining us for one of our events such as; our weekly coffee morning, monthly gents' club or our weekly knit2gether group. You can also consider the option of day care, this gives you a full day to have some time to yourself while your loved one is getting used to the care setting and meeting new friends. Sometimes loved ones can be anxious about their stay in a care home, but The Lakes care team will spend time getting to know each resident before they join us to ease any worries. We will tailor your loved one's care and activities to meet their needs and wishes. It's important that short stay residents feel at home, all the team are informed that a new resident is staying with us, as they all have an important part to play to ensure your loved one is happy, comfortable and enjoying themselves. So much so that they might like to come back. "Respite care allows caregivers a sense of balance" Families benefit hugely from these stays, and with the reassurance that your loved one is in a homely happy environment being looked after by a trained team, you can have some downtime and recharge your batteries. Our doors are always open, and you are welcome to visit with other family members and friends, join in activities, and attend support group meetings The Lakes run a monthly Carers Forum, where anyone who is caring for someone with memory problems can meet in a supportive enviranment to meet others and share experiences.
